Impressive growth in China’s home textile market sparks demand for original textile design

'The designer's studio': New feature at this year's show 
 
 
The Chinese home textiles market is going through a period of impressive growth. As the industry matures, it is now looking to improve the originality of its products. Recognising this demand, the organisers of Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles 2005 have created a zone dedicated to home textile designs: 'the designer studio'.

"China's booming domestic market is increasingly demanding for more original home textile designs and we believe that the 'designer's studio' will inspire local manufacturers, "said Katy Lam, Director of Trade Fairs for Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd. "Also, looking at the positive response from exhibitors, we think that companies involved with home textile design are delighted with the opportunity to showcase their creations in a zone dedicated to design only".

The debut of the 'designer's studio’ will feature original home textile products from recognised British, Chinese, Dutch and Italian designers.

Mr. Fulvio Alvisi of Alvisi E Alvisi of Italy explains why his company has chosen to participate at the first designer's studio. "Intertextile Shanghai Home Textile 2005 is an excellent platform to showcase original home textiles. As an Italian design studio, our aim is to offer our customers new ideas in terms of designs, constructions, and colours. We hope to represent Italian style, creativity, tradition and glamour. We are looking to new opportunity to support the Chinese companies to create innovative products".

Mr. Chris Verbeek from Verbeek & Van Den Broek, the Dutch design studio, agrees and understands why local Chinese manufacturers need to upgrade their designing skills. "We have heard from our Chinese customers that China is in great need of new contemporary Western looks to apply to their products destined to export to Europe and the USA. We hope we can fill in this need".

Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles will be held from 23 – 25 August 2005 at Shanghai New International Expo Centre and is organised by Messe Frankfurt, The Sub-Council of Textile Industry, CCPIT and the China Home Textile Association (CHTA).
